The Next Steps

My medical clearance physical is Thursday. It is over the top thorough… oh well. Once I have all the medical tests returned, I have to scan and send them to Washington. I am still waiting to hear from Diplomatic Security for my security clearance interview. Starting to get used to the hurry up and wait cycle that seems to be so prevalent in the government.

I also spent the last week reading the material provided by the State Department. We sold our house (against the recommendation of State). We put the house on the market expecting it to take much longer to sell, but we were very presently surprised that it sold in only 6 weeks. Closing in June 25 – I hope to have some idea when we will be leaving prior to that!

Over the last week I have been working with Foreign Service Institute Transition Center and Overseas Briefing Center on housing in Washington, DC. Because we have three dogs, we cannot stay in the State Department provided housing in DC, so we have to arrange our own option. Right now we are leaning towards staying at a Residence Inn. There is one in Arlington and another in Fairfax/Merrifield that will accept our pack. Because of cost and practicality with the dogs, we are leaning toward the Fairfax/Merrifield option.

Stay tuned… more to come.
