Our New Apartment

Things are moving pretty fast now. We have determined where we are going to live, and have officially signed a lease. We will live at 229 N. Thomas in Arlington, Virginia. The location is great for several reasons. It is right across the street from where I will be working, the George Shultz Foreign Affairs Training Institute (shown on most maps as “Arlington Hall”), a short walk to a Metro Station, and only a few miles from DC. In addition, we will have two bedrooms (so we expect visitors) and the owner of the condo is a fellow FSO, so he understands the strange nuances of State Department housing reimbursements.

Even though we are about 35 days out from our move, we are still in the “hurry up and wait” mode of dealing with the government that I am sure I will learn to love. In the next few days I am hopeful that I will receive my information packet that was supposed to be here last Friday. I am told it is several inches thick… but once I get that all filled out and returned we will receive our travel orders so we can start planning our cross country commute. That’s when things will start to get fun – the five of us, 980 miles, 3 days. Be prepared for some laughs!
